KM2 is an artistic trio led by Karen Young with her apprentices mica rose and Mel Taing.

It was formed when Karen was invited to perform at The Boston Foundation Brother Thomas Award celebration in 2021 and supported when Karen and mica were awarded a Traditional Arts Apprenticeship grant from the Massachusetts Cultural Council. Together with members of Older and Bolder, they formed a dynamic team dedicated to community engagement and cultural appreciation.

KASA stands for Karen’s Awesome Students and Apprentices and means ‘hat’ or ‘umbrella’ in Japanese. They are Karen’s newest group of students centered in deep study and the practice of learning taiko as a cultural art form rooted in the Japanese and Asian American movement of the 1970’s in North America.

If you inquire a performance availability, please contact Karen.
